What is EQ?

Caring parents and teachers do everything within their ability to give children an advantage.  They choose the best possible education for development of intellectual skills and invest in extra-mural activities from arts to sport.
But how do we prepare our children (and ourselves) for life?  What do we learn about stress, sadness and the handling of conflict? If you are a parent, will your child be able to work through disappointment and anger?  We all want happy, well-adjusted children but these emotional qualities and abilities do not come naturally to either children or adults. We all need to learn these abilities to become emotionally mature and well-adjusted adults.

Advantages of higher emotional intelligence
  • Individuals who are well acquainted with themselves, think and feel more positively about themselves and are more willing to venture out.
  • Individuals who have learnt to recognize, accept, control and verbalize their feelings.
  • Individuals who can recognize and replace negative thinking patterns with positive ones.
  • Individuals who can communicate effectively, respect the feeling’s of others, and empathize with them.
  • Individuals who can accept setbacks as part of life and learn from their experiences.
  • Individuals who can consider the decisions they have to make and have strategies in place to deal with conflict constructively.
  • Individuals who regard change as exciting and challenging.
  • Individuals who can motivate themselves, set realistic goals and live passionately.

The emotional intelligence skills that HopeUnlimited presents during courses  are not quick fixes for every problem but rather an opportunity to acquire life skills that will assist you, your partner and your children to handle emotional challenges.
